“Straight Talk About Money” — EFPA Czech Republic Leads the Way on Financial Literacy
EFPA Europe warmly commends EFPA Czech Republic on the outstanding success of the jubilee 10th edition of Global Money Week, a shining example of what sustained, committed, and imaginative engagement with financial education can achieve.
Brussels/Prague, 28 April 2026 — The 10th edition of Global Money Week (GMW) in the Czech Republic has once again set a new benchmark, with a record 122,700 participants — students, teachers, financial professionals, and members of the general public — taking part in financial literacy activities held across the country from 16 to 22 March 2026. EFPA Europe is proud to highlight this remarkable milestone, and to recognise EFPA Czech Republic’s central and enduring role in making it possible.
Now in its tenth consecutive year, the Czech Republic’s participation in GMW is co-organised nationally by yourchance o.p.s. and EFPA Czech Republic, under the coordination of the Ministry of Finance and with the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Czech National Bank. This year’s edition carried the motto “Straight Talk About Money” — a call for open, honest intergenerational dialogue about digital safety, healthy financial habits, and personal financial responsibility.
A Decade of Commitment
EFPA Europe wishes to pay particular tribute to EFPA Czech Republic for its unfailing, year-on-year dedication to this initiative. What began as participation in a global campaign has, under EFPA Czech Republic’s stewardship, grown into one of the most structured, wide-reaching and educationally rigorous national programmes in the entire GMW network. Reaching over 122,000 participants in a single week is not an accident — it is the fruit of a decade of relationship-building with schools, public institutions, civil society and the financial community.
Czech Finance Minister Alena Schillerová captured the spirit of the event: the initiative, she noted, brings together the effort and enthusiasm of many people who share a common purpose of advancing financial literacy. For EFPA Europe, this is exactly the kind of ecosystem-building that our network stands for.
Schools at the Heart of the Programme
This year’s edition placed schools at the centre, inviting them to participate through their own activities — special lessons, workshops, project days and open discussions. This decentralised, participatory model reflects a mature understanding of how financial education is most effectively embedded: not through top-down instruction, but through local ownership and practical application.
The programme also extended beyond schools to reach families and the wider public, with events such as “Hurrah for Money!” at Westfield Černý Most, offering practical guidance on household budgeting in a format accessible to children and adults alike.
EFPA Czech Republic’s Marta Gellová, Chair of the EFPA Czech Republic Council, articulated the vision behind the initiative: “We want people to learn not only how to manage money, but how to talk about financial responsibility in the right way.”
A Closing Conference Open to All
The culminating moment of the 10th edition was the closing conference, held on 8 April 2026 at the Czech National Bank. In a significant evolution, this year’s conference — traditionally aimed at educators and specialists — was opened to students, parents and other members of the public, broadening the conversation beyond professional circles. The afternoon session took the innovative format of a World Café, encouraging participants to share personal experiences and discuss topics ranging from financial habits and money communication to the influence of the digital environment.
EFPA’s Reflection
Financial literacy is not a peripheral concern for EFPA — it is fundamental to our mission. Well-informed citizens make better financial decisions, are more resilient to fraud and mis-selling, and are better equipped to build long-term financial wellbeing. The work that EFPA Czech Republic does year after year, in partnership with government, regulators, schools and civil society, is a model for every EFPA member association across the continent.
We congratulate all partners, schools and individuals who contributed to Global Money Week 2026 in the Czech Republic. Their work matters — and it is making a difference.
